Whose Revenue Is Property Tax?

According to the Property Tax Law, all buildings, plots, and lands within Turkey are subject to property tax. Property tax is payable by the owner of the immovable property, if there is a usufructuary, and if neither exists, by the person who possesses the immovable property as the owner. Those who will pay property tax must apply to the property accrual service of the relevant municipalities. In case of acquiring a new building, plot, or land, a property tax notification must be made to the relevant municipality within the year of purchase. However, if the title deed registration date falls in the last three months of the year, the property tax notification must be made within 3 months from the registration date. Taxpayers who do not file a declaration within the period will be subject to penalties according to the provisions of the Tax Procedure Law.
