Structure of Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs)

Why Use PLCs

A PLC is a type of control system used in many areas of industry. Plc, formed from the first letters of the words Programmable Logic Controller, is a programmable logic control system. The system, which we encounter in many places today, has the feature of reducing labor and speeding up production thanks to its superior technical features.

Technical Features of PLC

First and foremost, it is a system that enables faster and more serial production. It can be used with loaded functions and is easy to use. The system is installed in a short time, takes up little space, and does not have many cable inputs and outputs. One of the most important features of the system is that the input and output are monitorable. A PLC is a type of computer software. As it is software based on numerical data, it is used for sequence control, motion control, process supervision, and data management. The system basically consists of five parts or units. The first unit is the central processing unit, which can also be considered the brain of the system. This is the part that communicates between the processor and the memory. It forms the basis of the program. The second unit is memory. The memory stores the algorithm of the operation performed. For example; the information that ten thousand packages were made or five hundred shipments were made... is stored in the memory. The operator panel is the part that is held and provides management. It has a touch screen, commands are given from this screen, and the Plc executes the given command. The power supply and input/output unit also form the other parts of the system.
