How to Manage Hazardous and Non-Hazardous Waste
What is Waste?
The globalizing world continues to bring many problems with it. The production residues, chemicals, solid, liquid, and gaseous substances emerging from industrialization and industry, called waste, unfortunately continue to threaten human and environmental health. It is possible to eliminate the harmful effects of these substances and ensure their disposal without harming the environment through hazardous and non-hazardous waste management. What is Waste Management?
Everything that is useless and has passed its expiration date, emerging during the production and consumption stages, is called waste. Wastes emerging during the production stage are considered industrial wastes and these wastes fall into the hazardous waste class. In the consumption stage, we can generally consider household wastes. However, hazardous wastes such as batteries, etc., can also emerge during the consumption stage. These types of wastes need to be collected correctly at their source. Correct collection is only possible by collecting them separately according to their types. Waste management is to ensure that industrial wastes, as well as household wastes, are collected correctly at their source and transported to disposal facilities with appropriate vehicles. For this purpose, the Waste Management Regulation was published by the Ministry of Environment in 2015. The principle in waste management is to make a good distinction between waste and trash. Trash is a concept used for substances that are no longer possible to use in any way. Waste, on the other hand, are substances that can be recycled. Hazardous and non-hazardous waste management aims to separate these wastes according to their types and recycle them in appropriate facilities according to their types.
